Accomplishments
- In
the early 1990's, the Civic Association was instrumental in having the
extension of Flight Plan 1A diverted with the assistance
of then Borough President Claire Shulman and other numerous elected
officials.
- Civic
Association sponsored the Union Street Fair for seven years under the
leadership of Herbert Stark and Debra Markell.
- Civic
Association obtained a grant with the help of Senator Leonard P. Stavisky
to donate a scooter to the 109th Police Precinct.
- Civic
Association has supported the 109th Police Precinct with its vehicle
vin etching program twice a year.
- Civic
Association has supported the Mitchell-Linden Community by working with
the 109th Police Precinct, the Borough President's Office and the Mayor's
Office on numerous anti-graffiti clean-ups
- Civic
Association honored the graduating students in our community at our
June meetings with Scholarship Awards which we obtained from Astoria
Federal Bank.
- Civic
Association had many prominent guest speakers at our general meetings
over the years who have worked with us to fix problems and to maintain
our community. Some examples are: Melinda Katz, a former Director of
Community Boards, former Borough President Claire Shulman, current Borough
President Helen Marshall, and all local elected officials, past and
present.
- Civic
Association worked with Senator Leonard P. Stavisky to obtain a traffic
light on Union Street and 31st Road.
- Civic
Association worked with Senator Toby Stavisky and Mr. Herbert Stark
to have the street where the Senior Center is located to be re-named
Leonard P. Stavisky Place.
- With
a Grant from Senator Toby Stavisky and Assemblymember Ann Margaret Carrozza,
the Civic Association donated a PC and anti graffiti equipment to Patrol
Borough Queens North.
- The
Civic Association's June 2004 speaker was Mayor Michael Bloomberg.
Civic
Association, with previous President Herbert Stark and the Mayor's Office,
obtained Angle Parking on 31st Drive, between 140th & 138 Streets
in 2004. |
