From the desk of Arlene Fleishman, Co-President Dear Neighbors, As we celebrate the New Year, we also celebrate the accomplishments of the Mitchell-Linden Civic Association over the past two years. With the support of the community, we averted the construction of two high schools on Linden Place, brought to the forefront the serious flooding in our community, stirred action on the condition of the Path Mark Shopping Center, and assisted many of our co-ops in securing trees, free of charge, for their property. These are just a few of the many issues that have been addressed. We continue to work closely with our elected officials to improve our neighborhood. To continue this progress, we need your help and ideas. Presently, there are two vacancies on the Board of Directors. If you are interested in serving, please click on PDF Form link at lower right. and return with your dues to the post office address. You can also volunteer as a member at Large to actively participate and assist in our many events. We look forward to a very active 2010, filled with many activities for children and adults. Please join us in our endeavors. On behalf of the entire Board of Directors, we extend our very best wishes for a great holiday season filled with good health and hope for a brighter future.

From the Desk of John Choe, Co-President Spring is in the air and I want to welcome all our neighbors (new and old) to join the budding movement to renew and rejuvenate our community! We are organizing two upcoming events where you can meet your neighbors and get involved: “Make Music New York” and a “Night at the Movies.” We invite anyone in our community who would like to share theirmusical talents to join us on Sunday, June 21 as our neighborhood participates in the “Make Music New York” festival www.makemusicny.org. We are also planning a free out-door “Night at the Movies” (with popcorn) for the entire community. If you or someone you know are interested in either activity, please let me know. In addition to these wonderful events, the Civic Association is also monitoring a number of developments that may affect our community. To reduce congestion in downtown Flushing, we are looking at a plan that will convert Main Street (going north) and Union Street (going south) into one-way roads from Northern Boulevard to Sanford Avenue. Another plan is in the works to develop the Flushing waterfront with a promenade and other amenities. We are monitoring both plans and will keep you updated. We need you to help our growing community flourish and prosper. Your contribution is very important to us and we encourage you to participate and stay involved! We have now made it through the winter and are ready to be more active outdoors. We will have a very special guest speaker at our next meeting. We encourage you to bring your neighbors to hear from our special guest speaker, Congressman Gary Ackerman. While I have your attention, we want to remind you that the civic association dues for 2009 are only five dollars. They can be mailed to the address at the top of the newsletter or, better yet, bring it to the next meeting. Just fill out the application at the bottom of this newsletter and please include your e-mail address if you have one. Anyone who would like to help out the civic association, just put a note on the application or let one of the board members know. We have many committees that can always use your help.
